On election day, 27 May 1795, Democratic-Republican nominee James Garrard won the election after being chosen by an electoral college vote on the second ballot, thereby retaining Democratic-Republican control over the office of Governor. Garrard was sworn in as the 2nd Governor of Kentucky on 7 June 1796.[2]
