The 1952 Tula Airport collision was an aviation disaster that occurred on Wednesday, March 26, 1952, at Tula's Klokovo Airport.
A military transport aircraft was scheduled to fly from Tula to Berlin, carrying 34 cadets from the K. E. Voroshilov Higher Military Academy. At the same time, a passenger airliner, identified by some sources as either a Lisunov Li-2 or Ilyushin Il-12,[1] was making an intermediate landing at Tula Airport while en route from Odessa to Moscow. However, during the landing, the passenger aircraft overran the runway and collided with the military plane, resulting in a fire that destroyed both aircraft. The exact number of casualties remains unknown, but some reports indicate that at least 70 people were killed.[2] At the time, this was the deadliest aviation disaster in the Soviet Union.
