Asad Mecci (born March 4, 1975) is a Canadian hypnotist and performance coach. Mecci is known for creating the comedy show "Hyprov: Improv Under Hypnosis" with improvisational comedian Colin Mochrie.

Life and career

Born in 1975, in Northern Ontario, Mecci became a hypnotist after completing a commerce degree at McMaster University in 1998. Initially a cruise ship performer, Mecci incorporated hypnosis in his solo act.[1][2][3][4]

In 2012, Mecci and Olympian Brian Orser created "Peak Performance Skating", an audio series to help athletes improve their mental strength.[5][6][7]

Mecci enrolled in an improv course at The Second City Training Center in Toronto.[5][8][9] During the course, Mecci came up with the idea of combining hypnosis and improvisation.[10][11][12][13][14][15] This led to Mecci collaborating with comedian Colin Mochrie, and his manager Jeff Andrews in 2016, to create the comedy show "Hyprov: Improv Under Hypnosis".[16][17][18][19][20] Hyprov combined hypnosis with improvisational comedy.[21][22][23] The show premiered at the Just for Laughs Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2016.[24][25] Hyprov made its off-Broadway debut on August 12, 2022, at the Daryl Roth Theatre.[26][27][28][29] In June 2023, Mecci and Mochrie performed the show at Harrah’s Showroom in Las Vegas.[26]

Mecci is married to Sarah Power, a collaborator in his professional projects, including "Hyprov".[30]
