Kim Seung-min (Korean김승민; born September 22, 2000), known mononymously as Seungmin is a South Korean singer. He is a member of the South Korean boy band Stray Kids on March 25, 2018.

Early life and education

Kim Seungmin was on September 22, 2000 in Seoul, South Korea. He is an only child. Kim graduated from Chungdam High School on February 14, 2019.[1]

Kim initial dream as a child was to become a baseball player. he played baseball when he was young as a right-handed pitcher.[2]

Career

2017: Pre-debut

On February 23, 2017, Kim won 2nd place in JYP Entertainment 13th Open Audition and officialy started his trainee life in JYP Entertainment since then.[3] On October 13 of the same year, JYP Entertainment revealed that Kim will participated in the upcoming Mnet survival reality show called Stray Kids.[4] Kim officially appeared in public at the 2017 JYP Trainee Showcase which broadcasted on the first episode of the survival show.[5] In midst of the show, the group made the single "Hellevator" that available via digital music stores on November 1.[6]

On the afternoon of December 19, 2017 during the final episode live broadcast of Stray Kids survival show, Kim participated in the final mission and confirmed to debut with other participants[a] During the show he participated to perform their own songs in all missions, starting from "Hellevator" that has a music video, "4419", "GLOW", "School Life", "YAYAYA", "Young Wings", and "Grrr".[7] Personally, Kim also participated in the lyrics making process of 4419, the song contains lyrics that reflect the psychology of teenagers and those in their 20s. Later, JYP Entertainment released all their performed song in the survival show as a pre-debut Stray Kids EP Mixtape, therefore "4419" was the first song, which he participated in the production process, to be officially released.[8][9]

2018-present: Stray Kids

Kim Seungmin officially debuts with Stray Kids on March 25, 2018 through their debut showcase of the group, Stray Kids Unveil (Op. 01: I Am Not), at Jangchung Arena.[10][11]. On the next day, Kim with Stray Kids released an EP titled I Am Not and the lead single "District 9" which they showcased during the debut showcase.[12] In this album, he also participated in the lyrics making of song "Mixtape #1".[b]

On October 10, 2021, Kim released his first original soundtrack "Here Always" for a South Korean drama titled Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha.[14] The debuted at number 13 on Circle Download Chart issue dated October 10 to 16.[15] On October 19, 2022, Kim released his second original soundtracks "Close to You" for a South Koream drama titled Love in Contract.[16]

Endorsement

In 2023, Kim become the endorser of Coach Japan and become the front cover of Nylon Japan x Coach for their 2023 Holiday campaign.[17][18]
