English: Dinophysis acuminata Claparède et Lachmann, 1859
Formalin fixed sample, surface, sampling station 7 (North Sea).
Species originally described in1859. The antapical portion of the cell is rounded and can bear small protruberances. The sulcal list is relatively narrow and of similar width along its entire length. Dinophysis acuminata is a producer of DSP toxins. The taxonomic position of this species is still uncertain with many, very similar species existing which could be sub species of Dinophysis acuminata. Such similar species are for instance Dinophysis sacculus, Dinophysis punctata, Dinophysis ovum. description author alexandra
