The Hawaii Air National Guard (HI ANG) is the air force militia of the State of Hawaii, United States of America. It is, along with the Hawaii Army National Guard, an element of the Hawaii National Guard.
As state militia units, the units in the Hawaii Air National Guard are not in the normal United States Air Force chain of command. They are under the jurisdiction of the Hawaii Department of Defense unless they are federalized by order of the President of the United States. The Hawaii Air National Guard is headquartered at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Honolulu, and its commander is Major General Darryll D.M. Wong.
The Hawaii Air National Guard consists of HQ Hawaii Air National Guard, the 154th Wing, the 201st Combat Communications Group, and the 109th Air Operations Group. It is based at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. The wing contains several different squadrons which do various jobs for the state and government. The squadrons within the 154th Wing include:
The 199th Fighter Squadron of the Hawaii Air National Guard was activated in 1946 at Bellows Field. After the Pearl Harbor attack, this base remained active throughout World War II, then served as home of the 199th FS from 1946 to 1947, before being placed in caretaker status on 15 December 1948.[1]
