The James Dyson Award is an international design award that "celebrates, encourages and inspires the next generation of design engineers". It is organised and run by the James Dyson Foundation charitable trust, and is open to graduates (or recent graduates) in the fields of product design, industrial design and engineering, and offers the brief, "simply, design something that solves a problem".[1]
The graduates must have studied in one of the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, UK and USA.
A national winner is chosen from each, and from that list, an international winner claims the overall prize. Previous winners have included Michael Chen, winner of the James Dyson Award 2008, who designed the 'Reactiv' cycling jacket.
