Matthew Sates is a South African swimmer known for competing in the 2020 Summer Olympics.[1][2][3][4][5]Sates qualified to compete in the olympics in May 2021[6]and has been called “The next Michael Phelps” in the media. [7]

According to Sates, he was trained by Wayne Riddin at Seals Swimming Club in Pietermaritzburg and he verbally committed to entering the University of Georgia in 2022, though he would continue to represent South Africa.[8]
