The Migration Act 1958 is an Act of the Parliament of Australia.[1] Its long title is "An Act relating to the entry into, and presence in, Australia of aliens, and the departure or deportation from Australia of aliens and certain other persons."[2] The Migration Act 1958 is the the legislation governing immigration to Australia, and has been amended a number of times.

Legislative history

The first cabinet of Australian Prime Minister Harold Holt amended the Act in the "Migration Act 1966"[3] to allow entry of "non-white" immigrants into Australia, in particular Vietnamese refugees.[4]
