Shaykh Muhammad ibn As-Sayyed Yahya ibn As-Sayyed Muhammad ibn As-Sayyed Sa’id ibn As-Sayyed Muhammad ibn As-Sayyed Ali Al-Ninowy (born 1966) is a Islamic scholar and Imam.

Background

Muhammad bin Yahya Al-Ninowy was born in Aleppo, Syria. He is a sayyid where his family lineage can be traced back to Islamic Prophet Muhammad through his grandson Hussein ibn Ali by way of Musa al-Kadhim. His family descends from the southern Iraqi village of Ninowa, where Hussein ibn Ali was martyred in a partial area of which is also known as Karbala.[1]

Education

Shaykh Ninowy began his study under his father, As-Sayyed Yahya, memorising the Qur’an and acquiring knowledge in Islamic sciences, including Aqidah (Islamic theology), Fiqh (Islamic jurispudence), Hadith (Prophetic tradition) and Ihsan (perfection and excellence), with ijazahs (certificate to teach). He particularly specialises in the fields of Hadith and Tawheed.

He attended Al-Azhar University, Faculty of Usool ud-Deen, where he studied under many scholars. He was also under the tutelage of many who resided in Syria, Madina, Makkah, Tangiers, Fez, Rabat, Egypt, Sudan and Jordan.[2]

Career

Shaykh Ninowy has authored many books in the sciences of tawhid and hadith in Arabic, some of which have now been introduced into the English language. He resides with his family in Atlanta, Georgia, United States and is an Imam and Khatib in Al-Madina Masjid where he delivers weekly khutbahs and participates in many national and international conventions.

Since 2001, he has been the imam and Khateeb of Masjid Al-Madina in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, where he delivers the Friday Sermons and gives a weekly Majlis in Hadith and Tawheed. He participated in many national and international conferences on Islam, world peace, and welfare of humanity.[3] He has been an Al-Madina Institute foundation scholar since its inception.[4]

He along with Shaykh Ahmad Darwish have launched The American Islamic University, an interactive Islamic teaching system over the Internet, based on talaqqi (mouth to mouth transmission of knowledge) and Ijazah in teaching and knowledge.[5]
