Resett, also known as Resett.no, is a Norwegian online newspaper. The website was launched in 2017 with Helge Lurås as editor-in-chief. Resett aims to "present cases from a different angle than established mass media, and to cover news that other media do not want to cover".[1]
Resett's editorial board includes Shurika Hansen, who has a background from Somalia and came to Norway as a refugee when she was 12 years old. Maria Zähler was appointed editor in 2022. She is transgender, and has written about her transgender experience.[2]
For March 2018, Resett reported having approximately 560,000 unique readers per month.[3] In July 2018, the newspaper reported having approximately 30,000 unique readers per day.
Before Resett was established, Editor-in-chief Helge Lurås was a critic of Norwegian military campaigns abroad.[4] His scepticism is also expressed in Resett in their published analysis of NRK's coveraged of Civil war in Libya.[5]
Resett states that it follows the Ethical Code of Practice for the Norwegian Press, but its application for membership in the established media organizations in Norway has been rejected.[6][7]
The editorial board also follows its own ethical code of conduct, which states that "Resett will work for democracy and a liberal society based on the best in Western cultural history" and "Resett shall dare to take on difficult and taboo debates and give the public a platform for discussion."[8]
Political commentators in Dagsavisen and Dagbladet have argued that Resett routinely violates the Ethical Code of Practice, and that Resett must therefore be considered a political campaign and not a newspaper. A research report analyzing articles and comments in Resett found no clear violations of the Ethical Code of Practice.[9]
