At present we have the statement "The Soviet Army took the city on 20 August 1945[64] and Harbin never came under the control of the Nationalist Government, whose troops stopped 60 km (37 mi) short of the city.[65]". But reference 65, https://www.soldat.ru/spravka/freedom/6-china.html, does not mention what happened after Soviet troops took Harbin on the 20th August 1945. Did reference 64? The link, to a page on the USA Combined Arms Center website is broken. I ask because many people think that Harbin was effectively under Nationalist control from sometime after the Soviets took the city until April 1946, when the Soviets effectively handed it over to the CCP. Evidence of Nationalist control is shown by the use of stamps overprinted in Peking with "Limited for use in the North East", for use by Republican controlled post offices in the northeast, issued in February 1946, in Harbin in March (and perhaps earlier and later).
