Will this ever be even 1% complete?[edit]

Hi, I doubt this list will ever take off. There are 640,000+ villages - about 2/3rd of a million. I wonder whether this will be taken forward from this miniscule attempt. I suggest we drop the article completely. VasuVR (talk, contribs) 11:59, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I still think this is a useless page/article on Wikipedia. VasuVR (talk, contribs) 15:23, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Reorganise[edit]

I've gone through the lists in this article to see if any could be split off, but there wasn't really anything salvegeable. Now that leaves us with the present article, which has a few sentences describing the context and a table that gives the number of villages per state. In light of this, and bearing in mind the realistic range of prospects for expansion, I propose that this article be renamed to Villages of India, which is also the most common pattern for other village-related articles.

What about the lists? The idea was floated at the AfD of turning this article into a list of lists. The lists to be listed are the ones in Category:Lists of villages in India: these are about 60 list articles at the district, taluka and block levels, and altogether they make for a very patchy coverage, less than 3% of the country's territory. This is no material for a list of lists. The closest we get to such a list of lists is the rather neat subcategory tree of Category:Villages in India (which also includes the list articles), and that's already linked from the article. – Uanfala (talk) 19:02, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
