There's a painting by Ravi Varma Press called Shree Vishnu that I think fulfils your criteria. According to one site it's supposedly from the 1920s - 30s. I'm still kind of murky about copyright and domain so I'm not sure how to upload it. Maybe we could get some consensus about this or another painting and try to make sure it will be here to stay before it replaces the current infobox image. Chronikhiles(talk)03:02, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
File:Vishnu.jpg is a good choice. Is only a picture of Viṣṇu in with four arms, blue skin, and holding conch, discus, mace, and lotus as in typical iconography. Chariotrider555 (talk) 15:33, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Is this even public domain or just a random painting of Vishnu from Google? The artist, dating, and copyright status are all absent. We need a good representation plus these details to make an infobox image change stick. Chronikhiles(talk)16:19, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
User:Redtigerxyz, the image you suggest seems to struggle with balancing traditional painting style with Western influence, which is a bit off-putting artistically. Vishnu faces directly toward the viewer, but the artist does not seem to have a strong grasp on painting faces in Western photorealistic style nor proper 3D perspective. I think for an infobox image, the depiction should try to remain within a more firmly traditional depiction of painting or perhaps a pre-modern sculpture or idol of Vishnu. Chariotrider555 (talk) 15:55, 28 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Based on my experience, I think conventional paintings, immaterial of school, are generally the preferred representations of Hindu deities on the infobox. Of course, it's not a rule (Krishna, Lakshmana) but I'd personally be for a painting. Chronikhiles(talk)07:39, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In talk page we didn't discuss about this image, we suggest only authentic image,Why you changed the old photo, atleast add previous image idol of Vishnu, see other Hindu deities , can you make changes? This is very propaganda on Vaishnavism.I know you are shaivism, you jealous on Bhagavan Vishnu. Shame on you.
why you add this ugly old Vishnu image, why you so much jealous on Lord Vishnu. See other Hindu deities in Wikipedia, how beautiful, but you always changes related to Vaishnavism. Wikipedia is not your private property. See and search in Wiki media common, there is so much Vishnu images, upload the one, delete current image, hey red tiger delete it.
Dear anon, The current image is IMO is beautiful; a historical image with a suitable license, the dark blue complexion, the four attributes - shankha chakra padma gada, the vanamala, the kaustaubha. The image was discussed in the discussion above. Please upload an image with suitable license and more beautiful with suitable iconography; we can discuss the same here and change the image. Then why not also change God shiva Wikipedia images, then we appreciate it, see everyone as equal, then also change God Vishnu Wiki image as statue, there is so many statue of Vishnu in world eg like garuda wisnu , Angkor wat, etc ...... @Redtigerxyz2409:4071:D41:5B96:B2DF:D5E2:626A:BBAA (talk) 10:48, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This above image best for Vaishnavaism article, this image is also in thumbnail, add this image to Vaishnavism and change God Vishnu image in Wikipedia and add sculptures of Vishnu in Wiki image, there are so many statue of Vishnu in the world, for example garuda wisnu, Angkor wat temple statue , etc,....
Wikipedia users promote lot of vandalism and fake poorly sourced information on Hindu deities especially to God Vishnu. They add beautiful images/statue for other deities but in Vishnu wiki page they add old ugly photo, same image for avatar, dashavatar and Vaishnavism artist, they image link not opened in web, atleast they didn't change images. World encyclopaedia is much better than Wikipedia.

If you can't see past your misinformed accusations and refuse to be constructive within existing policy, you're wasting everyone's time. Also, nobody's forcing you to use Wikipedia. Chronikhiles(talk)02:20, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh once again changes images. Why ?
What a irony and propaganda by wiki users,
“Adding old image and few info for vishnu wiki page and using Good statue and more info on
shiva wiki article page

So many jealous and hyprocisy to God vishnu. That why now present age is kaliyuga. Even unrighteous is also happening in wikipedia. They are always wait for editing, even wiki accept chance for good rdit, but this so called users didnt get digest when we edit good faiths. World Encyclopedia is 10000 times better than wiki. Someone is targeting and attack me by adding my username to talk page with unnecessary text. I first time join Wikipedia, I add only neutral point of view and reliable source , but this account continuosly reverted my edit and add my username in talk page. Anyone can plz help me.
By Adding, Destroyer of Evil, concept of Vishnu Avatar is protector of righteousness (good) and destroyer of u righteousness (evil) ,so it is necessary to add this word before bestower of karma.
Narayana Name quote name by redirect link in below before The supreme being (vaishnavism) and by removing same title name link in other names
"Narayana" is not just another name or form of vishnu, narayana is aspect and important Epithet of vishnu deity.
it is necessary to add this names, because Entire description scriptures information found in this Narayana wiki article.
when i edit it, someone again reverted, it's any doubts anyone came discuss me, I answer for all debate it's necessary neutral point by good faiths or reverted my edits in vishnu wiki page history as reverted good faith .
Done. I'm the only one you pinged who can CU, although @Abecedare is an Admin he doesn't have checkuser. Sorry, I've been tired. I may not be able to help much once I start more chemo next month. Doug Wellertalk14:03, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Hbanm, why you mentioned my username in this content, I can't understand, there is no relation with this @Naanu neenu account, he made edits on wiki pages, what he edit vandalism, I just correct it, you are confused with same letter names, What I add content in wiki based on reliable sources only. Narine naresh (talk) 00:57, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks but please block @Narine naresh too, both are the sockpuppets of same account @Vinayvinyill, he is trying to play smart by replying to himself with different account, look at the language used in both accounts and he is doing continuous vandalism in articles with his sectarian bias. Hbanm (talk) 11:41, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Although suggested by another sockpuppet, it seems he has suggested a good image of the deity with good composition, attributes and most importantly proper copyright info. One thing that can be noted that it depicts the god in his region form Guruvayurappan, but hardly any major difference between the 2 forms is present. Seyamar(245CMR)💬📜19:10, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I already changed the image of the Vaishnavism article (to one including a devotee praying to Vishnu, the lack of which seemed to be the cause of the complaint) on the off-chance it might placate Vinayvinyill and his various socks, but I guess not.
So many statue of Vishnu are found in world such as Angkor wat Vishnu temple, Cambodia, Garuda wisnu kencana, so many, add This
if you didn't add atleast change shiva image add old photo to shiva, treat all are equal, you promote Shiva supremacy and wiki user's shows bad light to Lord Vishnu.
Why are you so obsessed with statues? The main image on the Vishnu article is much better than that on Shiva, in my opinion. Nothing on the latter article shows any kind of "supremacy". Dāsānudāsa (talk) 11:12, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And why so many info on infobox shiva and less info to Vishnu, isn't supremacy?
Unnecessary content add in shiva wiki info, Mahakala is another name of Shiva but you put as God of time and Also you add Cosmic dancer, it's also unnecessary, because it's name is Nataraja, add his names to as other names not in info.
Shiva is a pan-Hindu deity, introduction should be pan-Hindu in nature, lead adds his sectarian as Supreme later Jeevan jeeva jr (talk) 11:18, 25 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Regarding the new image, I don't really like that we've basically given in to the endless sockpuppetry, but the picture is fine, I suppose. Dāsānudāsa (talk) 08:55, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
