The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (transl. Tamil Nadu Victory Federation; abbr. TVK) is a political party in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu and the union territory of Puducherry. It was founded by actor-turned-politician Vijay on 2 February 2024.[1] The headquarters of the party is located at 8th Avenue, Panaiyur, Chennai.[2]
On 26 June 2009, Vijay launched his fan club, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, in Pudukkottai to carry out philanthropic activities.[3][4] The organization supported the AIADMK-led alliance in the 2011 legislative assembly elections.[5] The organization participated in the local body elections in Tamil Nadu in October 2021, securing victory in 115 out of the 169 contested seats.[6]
The party was founded on 2 February 2024, as Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) by the actor-turned-politician Vijay, a veteran star of Tamil cinema. He assumed the responsibility of the founder-president of the party. TVK is launched with the slogan "Pirappokkum Ellaa Uyirkkum (transl. All are equal by birth)". In the same announcement, it was announced that the party would neither compete nor extend its support to any other parties in the 2024 Indian general election, and they would compete directly in the 2026 Tamil Nadu legislative assembly election and the 2026 Puducherry legislative assembly election.
