The Moon and Sixpence (1942) is a film adaptation of W. Somerset Maugham's novel of the same name. George Sanders stars as a London stockbroker, Charles Strickland, who gives up his career, wife and children to become a painter. Herbert Marshall appears as a writer similar to Maugham who tell Strickland's story. Dimitri Tiomkin was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Music, Scoring of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture.
Because this film was independently produced, was unavailable for many years after the initial release and 1948 re-release. On December 14, 2011, Turner Classic Movies showed a restored print of this film.
