Uprising (Korean: 전,란; lit. War and Revolt) is an upcoming South Korean historical war action film directed by Kim Sang-man, written by Shin Cheol and Park Chan-wook, and starring Gang Dong-won, Park Jeong-min, Cha Seung-won, Kim Shin-rok, Jin Seon-kyu, Jung Sung-il. The film depicts the lives of two childhood friends-turned-adversaries during Japanese invasions of Korea.[2] It is slated for release on Netflix in the fourth quarter of 2024.[3][4]
Cheon Yeong, a slave with remarkable martial prowess who struggles to break free from an unjust servitude, and Jong-ryeo, Cheon Yeong's master, meeting again as enemies of King Seonjo's closest military officer and volunteer soldier during a time of chaos.
In June 2023, Park Chan-wook revealed that he was writing the film's script "for a long time, but [he] finished it in 2019".[6] Because Park was busy filming the HBO series The Sympathizer, Kim Sang-man directed the film instead.[7]
On June 7, 2023, Netflix confirmed production of the film with the casting of Gang Dong-won, Park Jeong-min, Cha Seung-won, Kim Shin-rok, Jin Seon-kyu, Jung Sung-il.[8]
