National varieties of English

Information icon Hello. In a recent edit to the page Greta Thunberg, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States, in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, or Pakistan use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author of the article used.

Given that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you. Sundayclose (talk) 15:35, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize. I blindly used Grammarly without checking first. Firestar464 (talk) 02:00, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Emergency slap button

Hi, I was wondering if I needed an emergency slap button. Do I, fellow editors?

RiverCity ferries reversal

see https://www.businessnewsaus.com.au/articles/sealink-secures-brisbane-citycat-contract.html this reference shows the correct name as RiverCity and not River City so the name as changed may be correct. I am still investigating. Perhaps the name of the article River City Ferries should be changed correspondingly. 125.168.62.92 also changed the name within this article.Fleet Lists (talk) 04:24, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Fleet Lists: No problem. When you finish investigating, please move the article as needed instead of just editing the link. Firestar464 (talk) 04:26, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Robby.is.on: Alright, though further investigation may be done by other users. Firestar464 (talk) 10:53, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Help with Lupin

I added Lupin to my js file and bypassed the cache, but nothing happened. What is wrong? Firestar464 (talk) 02:59, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The next thing to try is to log out and log back in.
If you still don't see the tools added to your toolbar, you should probably ask for assistance at User talk:Lupin/Anti-vandal tool. You're more likely to find fellow users of the tool there than with ((help me)). — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 03:17, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit on the South China Sea

Friend, I saw where you had added a sort of inbox to the article South China Sea, and I am not sure that you noticed how your inbox disrupts the orderly format of that article. It is perhaps best to leave it out. If you'd like, you may think about adding the information in a collapsible window at the bottom of the page. Be well.Davidbena (talk) 18:07, 20 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Davidbena: I reverted an edit to restore that infobox. I didn't add it. I apologize.

Sorry about not responding quickly!

I haven't been on Wikipedia for 3-4 days. When you commented on my talk page, I didn't see it at first. I replied to it. Have a good day! Toad62 (talk) 19:43, 20 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Help with wikimood

How do I get a wikimood? It's currently blank, and I want to adjust it to +9. How do I adjust it? Firestar464 (talk) 02:53, 21 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

About historical Parallels

I am glad to see your attention on the discussion page. In any case, I am not in the mood to engage in political discussions. Moreover, they are not directly related to me personally. I am a citizen of the Russian Federation. All I wanted to do was illustrate my point about the historical parallels between modern life and the English politician Palmerston more than 150 years ago. I think this is a legitimate desire on my part. Therefore, I intend to restore the fragment I have given. If, of course, you don't mind it. 93.81.210.123 (talk) 07:32, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@93.81.210.123: Did you see the message I posted on your talk page? Please read it. Thank you.Firestar464 (talk) 07:36, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Of course, I read your message. I understand that you have decided not to change your mind. Well, so be it. Although the topic of historical Parallels is a legitimate topic for discussion, including for Palmerston. 93.81.210.123 (talk) 07:42, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@93.81.210.123: Please understand that Wikipedia talk pages are not forums and are for discussion of improvements to the article. For more information, please read WP:FORUM Firestar464 (talk) 07:49, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I completely agree with you. I regret that you took my speech as an intention to organize some kind of political forum. But I will only point out that the topic of historical Parallels is a legitimate topic of discussion. 93.81.210.123 (talk) 08:22, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@93.81.210.123: That is if you're trying to make improvements to the article. Firestar464 (talk) 10:31, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That's what I was trying to do. You must agree that not every head of the British Cabinet is accused of being bribed by a foreign power. Fierce criticism and accusations accompanied that Palmerston all his life, and he calmly endured all this. Isn't it worth mentioning? Moreover, the topic of Palmerston's accusations affects very well-known historical figures. What Karl Marx alone is worth it. Isn't that right? 93.81.210.123 (talk) 11:40, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Cockburn John Charles Academy

Hi,

I am a member of the leadership team at the academy and we wish to remove the notable alumni section as,

1. It refers to a place of education that no longer exists 2. It refers to extremist terrorists who, while they may have attended the previous academic establishment, their outside behaviour long after they left the school has no bearing on the current academy. 3. Their presence on the page gives an unfairly negative image that may act to harm the public's image of the current multi-academy trust.

Please reinstate the deletion as originally intended for the reasons given above.

Thank you Keineboom (talk) 11:51, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Keineboom:

Thank you. Firestar464 (talk) 02:31, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Help

How do I deal with draft space edits of other users, like on this one? This would be considered vandalism on other articles, but this is a draft space created by the same user. What should I do? Firestar464 (talk) 07:45, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Some people don't think draft-space drafts are any different from sandboxes, and the evidence here is that the user is mostly just trying things out, not particularly indicative of vandalism. Probably the most you should do is drop a message on their talk page explaining that they should experiment in their own user space, not in draft space, and show them how to create a userspace draft. You could also give them a welcome message, since their user talk page is not yet created. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 08:32, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Jmcgnh beat me to this, but I just want to add that this isn't vandalism by any stretch of the word. From what I can tell, it's the user trying to write a draft and borrowing syntax and structure from an existing page - I would personally leave well alone as use of draft space to draft an article is exactly what it's for. The most I would do is welcome the user and offer assistance. stwalkerster (talk) 08:38, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Bonadea: I understand. I will not do such a thing again. Firestar464 (talk) 11:53, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Good, thanks. Please also remember not to make any changes that go against WP:ENGVAR (as commented above, in the section "National varieties of English"), and if you are still using Grammarly you have to be aware of the fact that that software actually causes a lot of problems. Unless you check every single thing that Grammarly marks as an "error" very carefully, you will inevitably end up introducing language errors into articles, such as here. Grammarly is a blunt tool, it marks things it thinks is wrong; sometimes it catches errors, sometimes it marks correct language use as incorrect and suggests another equally correct variant, and sometimes it suggests replacing correct grammar with a word or phrase that is in fact wrong. This is important to be aware of if you use it. --bonadea contributions talk 12:04, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Bonadea: I do check every error Grammarly displays. However, the software lags, though very rarely. (My first edit without editing others' comments!) Firestar464 (talk) 12:10, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Look, could you please disable Grammarly? This edit again added multiple errors, and again made WP:ENGVAR changes as well as completely pointless changes of the kind Grammarly makes (non-errors that the software just doesn't like) – the few actual language errors were in hidden notes so not a problem, but if they bothered you, you could have changed them manually.) --bonadea contributions talk 07:03, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Bonadea: Sure. Looks like WP and Grammarly are not good friends. Firestar464 (talk) 07:06, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

What are you doing? This comment [2] on my report at AIV was not helpful. I knew very well that the user had only been given two warning. I didn't report them for vandalism after a final warning. I reported them as a vandalism-only account, and I pointed to the disallowed edits in the edit filter as further proof. And their username was another indication of likely disruptive account. How many warnings they had was not relevant. user:NinjaRobotPirate apparently agreed because the user had been indefinitely blocked as a vandalism-only account before you left your comment.

And please don't change the boilerplate text at AIV. Meters (talk) 20:25, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

What was that for? I was just trying to provide info to the admins. If you are unhappy with me, trout me instead. Firestar464 (talk) 02:22, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Really? "What was that for?" If you still don't understand why that was not helpful after my explanation then you should not be making comments at ANI AIV. Trouts are for experienced editors who know better but make careless blunders. You don't appear to be either. You have really been active here for less than one month, so that's not all that surprising, but you really should slow down and pay attention when various experienced editors have been coming to your talk page and questioning your edits. You might want to rethink your rollback rights request [3] until you have more experience. Meters (talk) 05:11, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Help

If an editor blanked a page but has already been blocked, do I need to warn them? Also, how do I deal with gravedancing users? Firestar464 (talk) 03:05, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Warnings/reports are generally only given for actions past the last warning/sanction, so nothing needed in this example. And for WP:GRAVEDANCING, they can be warned/WP:ARVd per the first link — IVORK Talk 03:27, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion tagging

Hello, Firestar464,

Before you do any more CSD tagging, please review Criteria for speedy deletion. You need to have a valid, appropriate reason for tagging a page for deletion that meets a specific Wikipedia criteria. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 02:44, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz: Don't admins always delete empty user and talk pages? Firestar464 (talk) 02:54, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No, we do not delete user talk pages unless they contain material that violate BLP or copyright rules. User talk pages are typically blanked by users instead. Again, I encourage you to review WP:CSD because the criteria for speedy deletion are very specific and if you want to tag a page, it has to fit one of the criteria. It's not just for deletion of a page you think isn't useful. Liz Read! Talk! 04:21, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please explain

Please explain your AIV report of me here [4]. It is a personal attack to accuse someone of vandalism or gravedancing when there is no case. I made two posts to your talk page: [5] where I commented on your unhelpful comment [6] on an AIV report I had made, and [7], where I replied to your question. Where is the vandalism, and where is the gravedancing? Despite your claim at AIV, no-one had previously discussed this matter with you. My comment had nothing to do with the previous editor's warning, as you should have realized. I even provided the link to your edit. I was discussing As I said, you really should slow down and pay attention when various experienced editors have been coming to your talk page and questioning your edits. CrossFit

Disruptive editing.....

I am not disruptively editing. I am actually writing the correct and appropriate information. If you want facts, here:

Joshua Holmes began CrossFit under a different name in 1996. As he was building it and working on other information, I was separated from him due to school. However, I had been a gymnast during that time and he began working on the details of how to build upon gymnastics and strength, as I had out leg pressed most of my football squad at our school. We both went to a Christian school and CrossFit is built upon Christ-likeness and scripture. The name itself implies that ckearly.

Four years later, 2000, I was in a horrific accident that left me with a short term form of amnesia and my body physically impaired and told that I would be incapable to do most things from then on out. During my time of the injury, I was put into a coma, where I sat next to God, another attribute of CrossFit.

The CrossFit Reebok symbol that has the appearance of a triangle is the exact firm of a Christ Trinity, as was the church that he was a part of and I a member.

My husband, Joshua Holmes, who had been working on this along with other businesses in Seattle during 2000, continued to build upon this, praying that God would heal me. Because of my incapabilities, he did not force me into CrossFit. We did not divorce. And he is not a misogynistic man.

My name is Jennifer Lauren Holmes, not Lauren Jenai.

Quit THREATENING ME. Fitjenlauren (talk) 03:28, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Fitjenlauren: Chill. I do find it remarkable, but unfortunately, on Wikipedia this would be considered original research and therefore cannot be included in the page. Thank you for your understanding. Firestar464 (talk) 03:31, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That makes zero sense as what you clearly just stated was that what I wrote is the original, therefore it can NOT be changed and your threat is worthless and my exit can not be touched.

And DO NOT tell me to chill when you are threatening me and lying about me and lying about MY COMPANY and business and MY HUSBAND. Fitjenlauren (talk) 03:48, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

User talk pages

Please have a look at WP:BLANKING. It is every user's right to remove warnings and other posts from their own user talk page (as you yourself have also done!), with a very few exceptions. Please do not restore warnings when the user has removed them. Thank you. --bonadea contributions talk 06:29, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I see you've been having a hard time on here lately.

Hey. I see that you've been having a hard time on here lately. I'm here to try to help you out. A lot of editors have been concerned about your anti-vandalism patrolling. I applaud you for going out of your way to defend Wikipedia from trolls because we are always short on anti-vandals. However, based on what I've seen, it appears that you are getting a little too ahead of yourself. However, at the same time, your willingness to learn makes it seem like you have a lot of potential. What do you think about finding an instructor at WP:CVSCHOOL? If you do well enough, you might be granted permission to use the rollback button.

I took the time to write on your talk page because it seems that we both have Asperger Syndrome. Asperger Syndrome can make Wikipedia a bit difficult for some. Believe me; I would not have been capable of becoming a successful recent changes patroller back in 2017. I think enrolling in WP:CVSCHOOL will probably benefit you more than most of the other graduates. What do you say? Scorpions13256 (talk) 23:23, 29 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Scorpions13256: Hello, and thank you for contacting me. I would like to clarify what you meant by "getting a little too ahead of yourself." Again, thank you for contacting me. Firestar464 (talk) 02:04, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It just means that you might be trying to learn too much too quickly. I was like that when I started editing. I'm saying this because you've only been active since the beginning of October. I admit, I did not check your edits all that much before writing to you, but I think a brief search through past couple weeks were enough for me to conclude that WP:CVSCHOOL would be beneficial for you. I hope I'm not worrying you or anything. I am not in a position of authority like some of the other editors who have written to you. Scorpions13256 (talk) 02:54, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

something I noticed

I was looking at materialscientist's user talk page because he does so much anti-vandalism, and I was giving him a barnstar for anti-vandalism when I saw one you gave him. I decided to read your user page because we have a similar username, ans realized you have aspergers. I have aspergers too, but I usually dont tell people on Wikipedia that. I also saw that you like cats, which makes me think you got it from warriors by erin hunter, because I got my username from that too. I am sorry if this post bothered you, but I felt like I wanted to tell you. Firestar9990 (talk) 19:09, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop assuming bad faith

1) First edit was in good faith and had a detailed edit summary and accurately described the source text. You cannot describe that as vandalism. In fact I’d recommend you read the sources cited and put it back; see that the HistoryLink article doesn’t contain the word “biotech” and the quoted text in the Inlander and the Fig Tree describes an actual critique and is in fact cited correctly. 2) Second edit wasn’t a serious edit, but it looked like one. It was done in frustration for likely being reverted for just editing as an IP by someone lazily reverting it back without looking at it at all. Even so, it isn’t offensive and you shouldn’t assume it’s in bad faith either. What if it was just a mistake or bad edit? The edit isn’t supported by the source, but neither is the sentence in the economy section which I corrected before. Please assume good faith and actually read what you revert instead of trying to run up your edit counts or something. 3) Again, you are assuming bad faith and malicious intent for editing using multiple IPs? You are assuming bad faith for editing using my desktop computer and then my iPhone because I didn’t want to go start up the computer again. Guilty as charged I suppose. Slap the cuffs on me officer, I made an uninformed edit on two devices. Think about it, I’m not registered and don’t sign into an static account and the IP is dynamic. I’m not trying to circumvent anything except registered users like you on a power trip just assuming any IP edit constitutes vandalism. IPs can contribute good edits and IP Lives Matter.
