AN/I discussion involving your edits[edit]

Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents: Apparent promotional editing/linking -- User:Tdl185. Please review WP:ELNO, particularly criterion #5. Hullaballoo Wolfowitz (talk) 18:08, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It has become apparent that your account is only being used for spamming inappropriate external links or self-promotion, so it has been blocked indefinitely. Wikipedia is NOT a "repository of links" or a "vehicle for advertising" and persistent spammers will also have their websites blacklisted.

Request reason:

www.sonycmg.com is an official website run by Sony Music and endorsed by the artists signed to Sony Music. I have only posted links from artist Wikipedia pages directly to artist pages on www.sonycmg.com. I did this to add value to Wikipedia by associating it with an official artist profile on an official Sony Music website. If the Wikipedia community do not see value in these links then let me know and I won't post any in future. Please can you unblock my account so I can continue to edit Sony Music artist profiles to correct inaccurate entries and add new material?

Decline reason:

Check out the instructions at ((secondchance)). I'd say that those apply to this situation. That is, if you can demonstrate that you intend to not just add promotional links but also improve content in a way that's in accordance with our policies and guidelines, including neutrality and verifiability, then we'd be fine with unblocking. slakrtalk / 23:01, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the ((unblock)) template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

You don't seem to do anything but insert links to Sony's website. What is your connection to Sony? --jpgordon::==( o ) 17:16, 26 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If you haven't yet, see this. Understand that, regardless of authenticity, all those Sony pages were doing was linking to promotional material. As said above, please review the external linking policy to get a clearer understanding of this. What material would you work on if unblocked? m.o.p 14:41, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have read the external link policy and while I did not intend the links I posted to be promotional, I understand why the they could be viewed in that way, I would not do this again. As a songwriter, musician and avid record collector I believe I could be of value to the community. I am still learning how to use Wikipedia properly, but when I have had more time to get used to the interface and language I would like to start adding information about old Rock 'n' Roll and Blues musicians, that is where my passion lies. I apologise if I have caused any problems.

That's alright, we all started somewhere. Before I get to anything, let me link you to this page; signing after your comments on talk pages is vital.
Anyway, if you promise to avoid external links to pages that are promotional, I'll let you go. Does that sound reasonable? And can you promise that you won't do that again? m.o.p 17:57, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Of course, not a problem. I promise I won't link to promotional pages. Tdl185 (talk) 21:53, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
