Saucon Rail Trail

The Saucon Rail Trail is a rail trail in Northampton and Lehigh Counties, Pennsylvania, retracing the inactive portion of former SEPTA Regional Rail Bethlehem Line. It was Established in 2009, the same year as the Pennypack Trail.

Historically, the North Pennsylvania Railroad was used for local economic development in four municipalies: Lower Saucon Township, Hellertown, Upper Saucon Township and Coopersburg. Local industries and products were supported by the railroad; such as, anthracite coal, farming, commuter transportation, iron ore, mail services, dry goods, groceries and grains. It was a powerful mode of transport. Northeast Pennsylvania Railroad linked Philadelphia to Bethlehem and to coal regions north. Before the coming of the railroad, the route took 8 hrs to travel by stagecoach, or several days by canal boat. It took only 3 hours by Budd Rail Diesel Car. My Old Kentucky Dinner Train

The Bardstown railroad branch was originally constructed by The Bardstown and Louisville Railroad in 1860. Subsequently, the Louisville and Nashville Railroad purchased the line at a foreclosure sale in 1864.

R. J. Corman Railroad Company purchased the twenty-mile branch from CSX Transportation in 1987 and developed the Dinner Train which had its inaugural run in 1988. In addition to the Dinner Train, the railroad provides freight service to local industries. TheWanamakerBuilding (talk) 01:47, 27 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
