A scan of a newspaper would be a derivative work, the copyright retained by, in this case, the photographer and/or the Wheeling News-Register. No evidence the News-Register has released the image under GFDL. Эlcobbola talk 01:31, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No proof of GFDL claim. also source page is unlikely to own the copyright for the image. Lokal_Profil 16:16, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is a flag of a North Korean Admion Region. Since the other emblem's of North Korea are free use, shouldn't this be as well? §hep¡Talk to me! 00:25, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Non of the other regions seem to have any free flags. And I highly doubt that the north korean government uses GFDL as their state license. /Lokal_Profil 21:00, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Better? §hep¡Talk to me! 21:28, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Don't mind a fair use claim, just didn't want an unsourced GFDL claim. Mainly for the sake of deciding wheter derivatives are free or not. /Lokal_Profil 12:53, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Removing the PUI notice from the image since it has now been fair use tagged. /Lokal_Profil 14:04, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This was posted at WP:CP, but as we don't handle images there anymore I am bringing it here for consideration, with the permission of the tagging editor. Rationale immediately to follow Moonriddengirl (talk) 22:44, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[Despite PD tag, it appears to be a video or TV frame grab (note black border and "ringing" at left]. Janke | Talk 07:10, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

The contributor who tagged this article suggested a look at the uploader's history, and there seem to be a bunch of these. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 22:52, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wowzers! Looks like a history of uploading frame grabs, and looking at the users talk page, warnings.Soundvisions1 (talk) 23:05, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Janke. The left side of the image makes it clear it is a frame grab. Seems like it should use the ((Non-free television screenshot)) tag. However the user claimed it was their own work so unless they created (Directed/Produced) the TV show, and own the copyrights on it, the frame grab is from it is a copyright issue for sure. Soundvisions1 (talk) 23:00, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at the contributions, the uploader would have to be the creator of a lot of TV shows... ;-) --Janke | Talk 23:07, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
PS: It's pretty easy to identify a frame grab, even if the borders are trimmed off; a slight fuzziness and a slightly skewed color palette usually give them away. I'm a professional in the film&video business, and would be happy to give an opinion in unclear cases, but prefer others with more tagging experience to do the actual tag work... --Janke | Talk 23:12, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
