Suspected sockpuppets
Evidence submitted by Nsk92

Pretty transparent case of sock and/or meat-puppetry at the ongoing AfD Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lorenzo Iorio. All the above listed accounts have been open within the duration of this AfD and all are arguing for keep there. For the IP, 79.12.5.146, WHOIS give a location in Italy, which is where the subject of the AfD works. One of the above accounts, User:StarryingMatter87, has inserted a reference to Iorio's work in an article he created[1]. I don't read Italian myself, but User:Ignlig mentioned in the AfD that there is also an Iorio-related sockpuppet case at it.wiki[2], also involving a user named AsteraX99.

Nsk92 (talk) 20:03, 28 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also, several of these users, edited the article Elena V. Pitjeva within fairly close proximity of each other, namely User:Black 90745[3], User:PaxUniversalis[4], User:StarryingMatter87[5], another indication of a common behavioral pattern. Nsk92 (talk) 23:31, 28 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Additional evidence of common editing styles between User: StarryingMatter87 and User:876Xilli: On Dec 27-28 each of them created several stubs about physics institutes/labs, with very similar structure: 1-2 sentences(usually slightly grammatically incorrect) plus the External Links section consisting only of the official webpage of the institute in question. Specifically, User: StarryingMatter87:[6][7] and User:876Xilli:[8][9][10]. Nsk92 (talk) 00:02, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've added Gravitom to the list of suspected puppets because of his edit history: one brief burst of activity two and a half years ago supporting Iorio (for which he was warned to be civil) and then silence until a contribution to the AfD at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lorenzo Iorio. andy (talk) 12:13, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ranges are too broad for rangeblocking. -- Avi (talk) 07:21, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I understand about rangeblocking being impractical. However, what about blocking the socking accounts individually? Nsk92 (talk) 16:49, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article Lorenzo Iorio was deleted once. During the deliberations to delete, sockpuppetry was going on. The puppets were putting in their word to keep the article. Here are the findings of the puppetry.
The article has been re-created by User:Michoball. Debate has been going on the talk page of the article's merits. Brand new user User:Karuba333 has shown up defending the article. I'm wonder if this is a case of deja vu. Bgwhite (talk) 01:50, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If a clerk feels there is sufficient evidence to support this being Gravitom, feel free to merge the cases. Tiptoety talk 20:50, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Account was created around 4 hours after previous sockpuppets of Gravitom were banned in March. User has made ~40 edits. Lorenzo Iorio has been edited, which is same article the previous sockpuppets were editing. Other edits are to articles Mega Sazabi 144 has created. The subjects of the articles work at same University the sockpuppet works at... Antimo Palano, Giuseppe Nardulli and Antonella Bizzoca.

Don't know if this helps, but... On the Italian wiki, Lorinzo Iorio's article was just deleted with sockpuppetry also happening. Here is their report on the puppetry and the 11 puppets. One of the sockpuppets, Michoball, is same name of one of Grivitom's sockpuppets. Bgwhite (talk) 05:30, 7 April 2011 (UTC) Bgwhite (talk) 05:30, 7 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Brought an investigation yesterday about a sockpuppet of Gravitom that was confirmed. Today, I nominated an AfD on Lorenzo Iorio. As with the previous pages concerning Iorio, a brand new user of less than two weeks has appeared singing the virtues of Lorenzo Iorio. Could this be yet another sockpuppet? Apart from the fact that I am here since 9 March, not less than 2 weeks, the only reason for that investigation would be that I partecipated the Afd discussion on Iorio? What is this? A sort of intimidation? Not correct, not correct at all Megalobingosaurus (talk) 15:45, 9 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's  Possible this account is related to the accounts Amalthea found in the last check. TNXMan 13:38, 9 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I brought this on April 09 and result was, "Based on edit patterns, I think they're two separate people. Perhaps they know each other or something outside of Wiki. Either way, it's not enough for me to block, so I'm closing with no action taken"

I think the edit patterns are clear that WP:Duck now applies and this is another one of the 30 sockpuppetts of Lorenzo Iorio that has appeared on the English and Italian wikis.

Megalobingosaurus started off editing three German tank and one German plane articles. This may have caused the previous investigation into Megalobingosaurus to end in, "Based on edit patterns, I think they're two separate people". However... Tiger 1 edits have been undone. Messerschmitt Bf 109 edits have been undone. Jagdtiger edits have been undone. Tiger II edits have been undone.

Since then, it's been a constant barrage of comments on Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Lorenzo_Iorio_(2nd_nomination) defending the article. He is using the same arguments in the past AfD on the Italian wiki AfD and past English AfD

If you find this is another sockpuppet, what can be done to stop this merriment? Bgwhite (talk) 23:29, 10 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Another new user User:Blue rose yy has popped up, making minor edits but also commenting on the AfD. Bgwhite (talk) 16:41, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
