The resulting WikiProject was created at Wikipedia:WikiProject Translation studies

Description[edit]

This WP will focus on articles related to Translation studies; which has become established as an interdiscipline on its own right. Alternate names are Translatology or Traductology.

There are quite sufficient number of articles in Category:Translation studies or its subcategories, none of which are GA or Featured Level. As the Category:Translation stubs and its subcategories show, there are hundreds of Stubs and Start level articles. This WP will focus especially on such articles to lift them to at least B level and promoting some of them to even GA and Featured level. --Fadesga (talk) 00:05, 1 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
One of the reasons is that these groups have many more articles which are of more importance to them, hence the articles proposed to be added to WikiProject Translation studies stay ignored. Secondly, creating such a WikiProject will help to focus on specific articles and improve them in faster manner with focused collaborated efforts.

Discussion[edit]

Just to give you an idea: translation, translation criticism, machine translation, computer-assisted translation, language localisation, translation associations, translation awards, etc. And there are yet other areas to consider, such as the history of translation, translation quality assessment, etc. And, last but not least, biographies of hundreds (maybe thousands) of relevant translators. Where there is text, there is translation. Texts can be about anything, but translation is about translating texts. Doing this well requires both knowledge particular to the domain in which the text is situated, and knowledge about translation itself. Translation studies aims to prepare and inform translators about the latter aspect, and is therefore an (the?) interdisciplinary field of study par excellence.--LaFolleCycliste 08:45, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
