Proposal[edit]

It's high time we had more information on the American diaspora. I've been reading articles about the American diaspora for years, and yet there wasn't even an article by that name only I created it today. I remember once reading Wikipedia articles about Americans in the Philippines and Mexico, with estimates that the expat population in each of those countries alone is almost a million strong. Now I can't even find those articles. Either they've been deleted, or they've been buried. Nearly every country in the world has an American expat population, and we ought to have articles on each.

It's time to gather the news articles about the diaspora and the Wikipedia articles about members and populations of the diaspora into one place. Also, we need some work on related articles about immigration, economic issues, and other such things that affect the diaspora which are also sadly lacking Boomerang migration for example. I'm going to work on this myself, but really I'm probably one of the most unreliable people on the planet when it comes to things I don't get paid for.

But I know we can do this. There's a lot of us, and we're not negligible. Of the five people I might call friends, two, including myself are living in a foreign country, and well all came to the decision independently. Several countries have larger expat populations than many actual countries, and expats are usually highly educated (we have to be, due to the immigration requirements in most countries), are often quite influential. Seriously, I know there are other expats on here. --Quintucket (talk) 14:53, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Support[edit]

  1. Well, obviously. --Quintucket (talk) 14:53, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose[edit]

  1. Oppose - It's not clear that the topic "American diaspora" is notable. Regardless, considering that the article American diaspora is an orphan, it's very premature to think about making it into a WikiProject. --Orlady (talk) 01:58, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
