Akinpelu Oludele Akinsola (November 1927-May 2010) is a Nigerian professor of Surgery, educational administrator and former Vice chancellor of the University of Lagos[1][2].

Education

Akinpelu attended Saint Jude's primary School in Ebute-Metta, Lagos state, Nigeria and later Abeokuta Grammar School in Ogun State, Nigeria for his secondary education. He obtained his first degree in Medicine (M.B.B.S) from the University of Ibadan. He proceeded to the Queens University Belfast, for clinical courses at the Royal Victoria Hospital which is the teaching hospital of the university[3]

Life and career

He began his professional career at The Queen's University of Belfast and The Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast. He received the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, in 1960. He was appointed Second Year Senior Surgical Registrar, Professorial Unit, University College Hospital, (UCH) Ibadan in 1961 after his return from England. He left the University College Hospital, (UCH) Ibadan to University of Lagos where he was appointed Lecturer in Surgery and Consultant Surgeon at the new Medical School (ULMS) and the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) respectively. He was a Research Fellow at the University of Rochester Medical (Rochester, New York, USA) for one year. He was appointed as the Vice chancellor of the University of Lagos in 1981, a tenure that lasted for seven years[4][5].
