Alex Orji (born November 10, 2003) is an American football quarterback for the Michigan Wolverines.

Early life and high school

Orji attended high school at Sachse High School in Texas. He had a breakout junior year completing 226 of his 436 passes for 3,467 yards and 38 touchdowns to 15 interceptions, while also adding 2,113 yards and 39 touchdowns on the ground.[1] Coming out of high school, Orji was rated as a three-star recruit by 247Sports.[2] He originally committed to play college football for the Virginia Tech Hokies.[3][4] However, he de-committed from the Hokies and signed with the Michigan Wolverines.[5][6][7]

College career

In Orji's first season in 2022, he rushed six times for 37 yards and two touchdowns, while also completing his only pass attempt for five yards.[8] In week eight of the 2023 season, Orji carried the ball five times for 27 yards and a touchdown in a win over rival Michigan State.[9] In week 13 of the 2023 season versus Ohio State, he rushed twice for 22 yards.[10] In the 2023 Big Ten Championship Game against Iowa, he rushed twice for nine yards.[11]

Personal life

Orji has two older brothers, Anfernee and Alston.[12] Anfernee plays for the New Orleans Saints as a linebacker.[13] Alston played linebacker for Vanderbilt and Campbell.[14]
