Ali Hazelwood is the pen name of an Italian romance novelist and neuroscience professor.[1] Many of her works center on women in STEM fields and academia. Her debut novel, The Love Hypothesis, was a New York Times best seller.[2]

Career

The Love Hypothesis

The Love Hypothesis was developed from a 2018 Star Wars fan fiction about the "Reylo" ship between Rey and Kylo Ren[3][4] originally titled Head Over Feet and published by Hazelwood on AO3 under the pen name "Ever-so-reylo".[5] The main characters were renamed Olive and Adam (the latter after Adam Driver), with all explicit Star Wars references cut, and the characters on the novel's cover illustration designed after Driver and Daisy Ridley.[6][7]

Other works

She published three novellas in 2022: Under One Roof,[8] Stuck with You,[9] and Below Zero.[10] These stories were compiled into a book called Loathe to Love You released in 2023.

Her second novel Love on the Brain was published on August 23, 2022.[11] Her third novel, Love, Theoretically was published on June 13, 2023.

Her first YA novel, Check & Mate was published on November 7, 2023.[12]

Bride, a paranormal romance novel, and Not in Love are scheduled for 2024.

Personal life

Hazelwood was born and raised in Italy[5] and lived in Japan and Germany before moving to the United States to pursue her Ph.D. in neuroscience.[13] During her graduate study, Hazelwood researched brain simulation and cognitive neuroscience.[14]

Hazelwood currently works full-time as a professor.[13] She is married and has three cats.[15]
