Aziz Mohammad Bhai is a Bangladeshi businessman and film producer.[1] He is alleged to have been involved in several serious crimes including murder and drug trafficking.[2][3][4]
Aziz Mohammad Bhai was born in 1962 to Mohammad Bhai and Khatija Mohammad Bhai, émigrés to Bangladesh from Gujarat, India and is of Gujarati, and Persian descent.[1] He was actively engaged in the management of a steel producer for more than three decades and has been an innovator in a local pharmaceutical manufacturing industry with Ambee Pharmaceuticals.[1] He was involved with several major films produced under his film production company, Ambee Films. Bhai is also a life member of the SAARC Chamber of Commerce.[1]
Aziz Mohammad Bhai is the managing director of Olympic Industries Limited and his father is the chairman of the company.[1]
He was first arrested during the tenure of Hussain Muhammad Ershad as president. The Aga Khan, Prince Karim Aga Khan reportedly himself came to Bangladesh secure his release.[5]
In 1997, he was alleged to be involved in the alleged murder of the actor Salman Shah. Police had filed a case of suicide, but the family objected to it and lodged a murder case.[2] A Rezvi Ahmed was arrested from the house of Salman Shah's mother, reportedly named Aziz Mohammad Bhai and Salman Shah's wife Samira, of ordering the hit.[6][3] Bhai denied the charges, but he was barred from entering India and his passport was impounded.[6] Rezvi Ahmed recanted his confession.[3]
In 1999, he was accused of involvement in the death of actor, Sohel Chowdhury.[7][8]
In 2007, he was charged for manufacturing yaba tablets. His nephew, Amin Huda, Dhaka was sentenced to prison in 2013 in these crimes.[4]
