Boma Ozobia, OON, LLM is a founding Partner of Sterling Partnership, Nigeria and former President of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association (2011-2013), the first woman President in the history of this association.[1][2][3]
Boma is from Rivers State, Nigeria. She had her Secondary School education at Federal Government Girls College, Abuloma, Rivers State. Thereafter, she attended attended the Rivers State University where she graduated with a LLB and went for her LLM in Kings College London. Her father attended the University College Ibadan. Her uncle Ambrose Alagoa was the first indigeneous Chief Judge of Rivers State. Her uncle, Justice Stanley Alagoa was also a lawyer who rose to the position of Supreme Court Justice in Nigeria. Her grandfather was also a Magistrate. [4][5] [6][7]
Boma Ozobia was the Vice President of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association from 2009 to 2011 and became the President from 2011 to 2013. Before then, she was the Chairwoman, Association of Women Solicitors England and Wales (2005/2006), Chair, NBA Section on Legal Practice Professional Development Committee. She is the owner and Senior partner, Sterling Partnership. She was also on the Board of Trustees of the Royal Commonwealth Society and was awarded the national honour of an Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) in September 2014. [8] [9]
Boma Ozobia was involved in the Centenary City Scandal in 2017 alongside Paul Oki and Anyim Pius Anyim. The Centenary City Project was awarded by President Good luck Jonathan, with Boma Ozobia and Paul Oki as directors of the project. The report of the House Committee on Environment indicted Mr. Anyim and made a recommendation that former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed and two directors of the centenary city, Paul Oki and Boma Ozobia, be investigated by anti-graft agencies on allegations that Centenary City Project, estimated to cost $18.3 billion, which was supposed to be a private project, was discovered to have been diverted for personal gains.[10][11][12]
