Camembert (French pronunciation: [kamɑ̃bɛʁ] ⓘ) is a commune in the Orne department in north-western France.[2]
It is the place where camembert cheese originated.[3]
The commune has one river running through it the Viette in addition to four streams, the Fontaine de la Motte, Besion, the Moulin Neuf, plus the Costillets.[4]
The village is most noted for the early development of camembert cheese by Marie Harel in 1791.[3]
