These writers have won the Newbery Medal from the American Library Association, recognizing the previous year's "most distinguished contribution to American literature for children" (one book).

The Medal was inaugurated in 1922 and there have been 91 Medals and winning works through 2012; only 86 winning authors because five have won twice.
