Chunithm[1] (stylized in all caps) is an arcade rhythm game developed and published by Sega. It was demonstrated first in some Japanese arcades in November 2014,[2][3] and was officially released on 16 July 2015.[4] The game's title of Chunithm is a portmanteau of "chūnibyō" and "rhythm".[3]

In a livestream on 20 October 2021,[5] Sega announced that they will reboot the CHUNITHM series and make a new game called “CHUNITHM NEW” with style based on the original "CHUNITHM".[6] Along with "CHUNITHM NEW", new cabinets are also released along with the new game. Many new features and improvements were made to the new machine, such as:

These new cabinets are called "Gold Model" while old cabinets are now called "Silver Model”. Old "Silver Model" cabinets can be converted using conversion kits to run "CHUNITHM NEW".[7]

Gameplay

In Chunithm, players use touch and motion-based sensor bars to input commands that correspond to the notes scrolling down from the top of the screen. Depending on the type of note, players may be required to tap, hold, or slide their fingers against the bottom sensor bar or wave their hands in the air between the sensors located on either side of the machine.

CHUNITHM NEW introduces two new AIR note types.

Rating

In Chunithm, a rating system exists as an indicator of a player's level. The rate is calculated from your best score of 30 songs and your recent score of 10 songs. The rating system was redesigned with the launch of ”CHUNITHM NEW“ and is currently divided into nine levels by color. (Rating 17.41 is reachable at this time.)

RATING COLOR
0.00~3.99 GREEN
4.00~6.99 ORANGE
7.00~9.99 RED
10.00~11.99 PURPLE
12.00~13.24 BRONZE
13.25~14.49 SILVER
14.50~15.24 GOLD
15.25~15.99 PLATINUM
16.00~ RAINBOW

score constant

The level of each score is internally valued to the first decimal place. For example, the same level 12 notation may be 12.0 or 12.4 internally. This value to the first decimal place is called the "score constant" (not the official name). This score constant is used in the rating calculations.

When the first decimal place is 5 or more (n.5 to n.9), "+" is added to the level notation.

Levels 9+ and below have a decimal place depending on the presence or absence of "+".

Levels 6 and below and 7 to 9 without + always have 0 (n.0) as the first decimal place of the score constant.

Levels 7+/8+/9+ always have 5(n.5) decimal places.

A specific value is added to the score constant according to the score to determine the rating for each piece.
