Damsel is an upcoming American dark fantasy film directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and written by Dan Mazeau. The film stars Millie Bobby Brown, Ray Winstone, Nick Robinson, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Angela Bassett, and Robin Wright.
Damsel is scheduled to be released by Netflix on March 8, 2024.[2]
A dutiful, sheltered young noblewoman agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to discover that his family intends to sacrifice her to repay an ancient debt. Trapped in the cave of a fearsome dragon, she must rely on her wits and will to survive.
Damsel was announced in March 2020, with Juan Carlos Fresnadillo set as director, Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum set as producers, and the script written by Dan Mazeau.[3] In November 2020, Millie Bobby Brown was cast as Princess Elodie, along with being an executive producer for the film, with a projected budget of $60-70 million set for the film.[4][5]
Shooting for the film began in February 2022,[6] and lasted until July 1, 2022, in Tomar, a municipality in the Santarém District of Portugal. In April 2022, Angela Bassett joined the cast, as did Nick Robinson, Robin Wright, Ray Winstone, Brooke Carter, and Shohreh Aghdashloo.[7][8]
Damsel was scheduled to be released by Netflix on October 13, 2023.[9] However, it was postponed due to the impact of the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike in the United States on the film's promotion, with a new release date of March 8, 2024.[10][2]
