Garrett T. Capps is an American songwriter, producer, and musician from San Antonio, Texas. He has coined the term “Kraut-Country” to partially describe his sound, blending elements of Country and Tex-Mex from his native Texas with Kraut rock and experimental music. [1]
Growing up in San Antonio, Texas Capps cites his earliest influences from 90’s pop radio, including the Wallflowers’ “Bringing Down the Horse” and Foo Fighters “Colour and the Shape” [2]. His first instruments were guitar and drums, playing drums in punk and doom metal bands in San Antonio. [3]
Capps is a co-owner of the Lonesome Rose honky tonk in San Antonio. [4]
During the pandemic lockdown, Capps organized and hosted the online “Viva Telethon” in 2020 and 2021 with Texas Public Radio to raise money for the arts in San Antonio. Special guest interviews included Ron Nirenberg, Matt Bonner, and Carole Baskin. [5] [6]
The Shadows Trilogy was Capps first exploration of the self coined ‘Kraut Country’ sound, starting with “In the Shadows (Again).” It also marked the formation of the NASA Country band, featuring San Antonio musicians odie., Torin Metz, Justin Boyd, and Kory Cook. [14] [15]
