Imgflip (officially pronounced "Image flip") is a meme creator and a social media platform dedicated to creating and sharing internet memes which can come in the form of images, GIFs, demotivationals or pie charts,[1] released in June 29, 2011, by David Wenzlau. The website also offers Imgflip Pro, a paid subscription for extra features. The website has been criticized by it's drama and controversial users online.
Imgflip was founded by David Wenzlau, he is also a co-founder of Guava Health. David studied at the Washington University in St. Louis.[2] The first time the Imgflip domain was registered was in June 14, 2008,[3] however, it had been left out and the domain was registered again in June 29, 2011.[4] The first meme featured the "Insanity Wolf" and was published around the same time the site had been released.[5]
Templates are pre-existing images or videos that people can use to create their memes. There are 60 templates shown directly in the meme generator, but it is possible to click "View All Meme Templates (1,000's more...)
Imgflip is currently running on Cloudflare servers.
Streams in Imgflip are places that people use for specific-themed memes. The current default stream is the "Fun" stream.
Points allow you to get certain icons. (44 icons in total), you need an account to get them and you'll have some extra features:
Memechat is a real-time messaging feature in Imgflip that allows users to communicate quickly, text is mostly used in messages, but certain small images can also be used, as of October 2023, this feature is still in beta.
Imgflip has a subscription model called "Imgflip Pro" that lets you have extra features by paying monthly/yearly.
Imgflip also has the "Pro Basic" model that costs less but also gives you less extra features.
