Texas and Pacific 638 was a class "I-1b" 2-10-4 "Texas" type steam locomotive that was originally operated by the Texas and Pacific Railway (T&P).[1]
Texas and Pacific 638 was manufactured in February of 1928 by the Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, Ohio and it was delivered to the Texas and Pacific Railway that same year in 1928.[1][2]
After being retired from service, No. 638 was donated to the State Fair of Texas in December of 1949 and it was placed on static display at the Fair Park.[2] But it had fell into disrepair and excessive vandalism and due to its condition and it being vandalized, No. 638 was subsequently scrapped in February of 1955 and replaced by New York Central L-3a #3001.[2][3][4]
