New York based Wocstar is an early-stage investment fund focused on tech innovation being brought to market by inclusive teams and women of color, Wocstars. Wocstar Fund is changing the trajectory for investors and the businesses building, innovating and thriving in a digital, borderless world. Wocstar’s mission is to amplify the voices of women of color (WOC) entrepreneurs, offering tailored support to enhance their business strategies and secure solid financial footing. From the nascent stages of a business to achieving contentment with its trajectory, Wocstar is committed to providing comprehensive assistance every step of the way.

History

Wocstar was created by venture capitalist Gayle Jennings-O'Byrne in 2018. Jennings-O'Byrne pivoted from her previously founded Harriet Capital, an investment management firm and fund aimed to invest in startups led by Black and Latinx women, to expand her vision. Jennings-O'Byrne relaunched with the iNTENT Manifesto Campaign and Wocstar Fund.[1][2][3] Wocstar Capital,[4][5] is an entrepreneurial advisory, storytelling, and investment management firm that educates and trains entrepreneurs and small business to build successful/sustainable companies to access the right capital at the right time.

Wocstar Academy

As an extension of Wocstar's commitment, Wocstar Academy delivers virtually-held specialized classes, equipping business owners with additional tips and tricks of the trade. It’s a platform designed to foster continuous learning and growth. The program runs for eight weeks and has a combination of workshops, programming, and mentorship opportunities. The two classes being offered currently are, "Intro to Startup Investing Masterclass" and "The Risks & Rewards of Angel Investing".

Wocstar Media

Wocstar Media is another extension of the brand that aims to amplify the voices that are changing the future of finance, entrepreneurship, media, and entertainment by helping to fund their endeavors. Wocstar Media actively works with humans who are brave, bold, collaborative, and inclusive in their pursuits. Wocstar Media champions, celebrates, and supports women of color with big, bold ideas who do not let anyone stand in their way. Wocstar entrepreneurs and creatives are pushing the boundaries to bring inclusive human stories, universally rich experiences, media, and new perspectives from underrepresented communities to the global marketplace.

The mission is simple and clear. From bringing new and beloved diverse plays to Broadway to the modern retelling of the classics or the reimaging of the rom-com on the big screen; to deeply poignant dramas and intelligent comedies on streaming services, Wocstar Media's Foundation strives to take viewers to unexplored places with universal human stories.

With the support of donators, the perception and narrative of communities of color can change.
