Pierre Francois Hanekom (born Port Elizabeth, South Africa) is a South African rugby union player, currently playing with the Boland Cavaliers.[1] His regular position is prop.
6 February 1989 inHanekom played secondary school rugby for the Cradock-based Marlow Agricultural College and led to his inclusion in the Eastern Province Under-18 Craven Week squads in 2006[2] and 2007, where he was the second-heaviest participant.[3]
In 2008, he moved to Durban, where he linked up with the Sharks. He was a member of the Sharks U19 squad in 2008 and the Sharks U21 squads during 2009 and 2010. In 2011, he was named in their Vodacom Cup squad, but was never involved in first team action. He eventually made his first class debut during the 2012 Vodacom Cup season, starting in their match against the Boland Cavaliers in Wellington, in what turned out to be his only senior match for the Sharks.[4]
Shortly after making his senior debut in Wellington, Hanekom moved there on a permanent basis by joining the Boland Cavaliers prior to the 2012 Currie Cup First Division season.[5] He made his Currie Cup debut in the opening match of the season against the Eastern Province Kings[6] and immediately established himself as the first-choice loosehead prop, starting thirteen of their fourteen matches during the season. He remained involved in first team duties throughout the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
