Freya Godfrey (born 7 May 2005) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Women's Championship club Charlton Athletic, on loan from Women's Super League club Arsenal.

Club career

Born in 2005[1] in Essex, Godfrey joined the Essex FA's Regional Talent Club at young age before becoming part of Arsenal's academy setup. She impressed at youth level, scoring 13 times in 18 appearances in the WSL Academy League.

Godfrey enjoyed a spell at Ipswich Town in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division in 2022 while remaining with the Gunners under dual-registration. She put together a string of quality performances, including scoring the winner on the last day of the season against Oxford United on the 7 May 2023.[citation needed]

The attacking midfielder made her WSL debut four days later, appearing in Arsenal's 4–0 win over Brighton.

Godfrey is also an experienced youth international, having represented the Lionesses from U14 level all the way through to the U19s.

“I’m buzzing, I can’t wait to get started,” said Godfrey in her first interview as a Charlton player.

“I’ve seen the way that [the team has] been developing throughout the years, getting better and better, and it’s just something I wanted to be a part of."[2]
