On her website in 2012, September announced that she would be recording her first Swedish studio album.[3]
In an interview with Dn.se, she officially confirmed that the next album will be under her birth name Petra Marklund instead of September.[4] She announced that this studio album will have no trace of her signature eurodance style, and stated the album will be "Dark... and personal" and also stated that there is musical traces of pop and Hip-Hop.[4]
Upon the announcement of the album, Marklund said, "It doesn´t mean I 'quit' September, it just means I'm gonna do more music. September is on my mind all the time and there will be more in the future!" [5]
The lead single Händerna mot himlen was released on 14 September 2012 and peaked at #2 in Sweden.
Scandipop reviewed the album by saying that the singing is very good, but the production is the big 'wow' factor. They said "Does ‘Inferno’ sound like those September albums of old that we cherish? No, nothing like it. But does that matter? No, not in the slightest – it’s really very good. Very very good, in fact." [6]
Hanna Fahl from DN also complimented the album saying "It's a cohesive album, superbly well written, and in some moments it can lift and fly" and complimented Marklund for being "strong and present". But unlike the Scanipop reviews, she believes the disk is not really a fresh start, but "an extension and continuation of September's tearful and desperate 'Cry for you'". [7]
"Inferno" debuted at #1 and remained in the Swedish top 50 for 38 weeks. [8]
