Lawrence Xu-Nan is a New Zealand politician belonging to the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand.[1] He is the highest ranked non-MP on the Green Party list.

Early life

Xu-Nan was born in Tianjin and as of 2023 has lived in New Zealand for 25 years.[1] He has a doctorate in egyptology from the University of Auckland and is currently studying law.[1][2][3][4]

Political career

Xu-Nan joined the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand. He was the party's male policy co-convenor from 2020 to 2023 and party co-convenor from 2023.

At the 2020 general election Xu-Nan contested the Pakuranga electorate and was placed 17th on the Green Party list.[5][6] In 2023 Xu-Nan contested the Epsom electorate. He was placed 16th on the Green Party list, but was ranked too low to win a list seat at the election.[7] The death of Efeso Collins in February 2024 means that Xu-Nan is the first person eligible to succeed Collins as a member of Parliament.

Personal life

Xu-Nan is queer.[8]
