The Walt Disney Company Europe, Middle East & Africa (also known as Disney Co. Ltd.) is the first and largest international division of The Walt Disney Company, serving the EMEA. It's headquarters' located at Queen Caroline Street, Hammersmith, West London,[66] and have most of its locations, mostly in Europe.
After almost a decade since The Walt Disney Company founded on 16 October 1923, it was firstly created and published comics in European countries.
On 31 December 1932, as a magazine named "Topolino" (Italian name for Mickey Mouse) across Italy. Created and edited by an Italian designer Mario Nerbini, containing Mickey's first Italian story, drawn by a cartoonist Giove Toppi.[67]
On 21 October 1934, "Le Journal de Mickey" (transl. Mickey Magazine) was first published in France, featuring Disney Comics and published by Unique Heritage Media;[68] and in September 1948 "Kalle Anka & C:o" (transl. Donald Duck & Co), a Donald Duck magazine was published by Egmont[69] in the Nordic countries,[70] including Sweden as the popular Swedish comic magazine.[71]
On 1951, "Micky Maus", (German for Mickey Mouse), is a magazine that was released in Germany and published by Egmont Ehapa.
On 25 October 1952, "Donald Duck Weekblad" (Donald Duck Weekly) was then released and available in the Netherlands. Originally published from the women's magazine Margriet.[72]
On 5 November 1961, "Radiodiffusion-Télévision Française" (RTF) (Later TF1) make an agreement from "Walt Disney Production", as it launches "L'Ami Public Numéro Un" (Public Friend Number One),[73] hosted by Pierre Tchernia. The show tells about the cinematographic work of Walt Disney,[74][75] 'till was later ended in 1978.[76]
In November 1990, Disney opened the Disney Store in Regent Street, London,[77] market the first in Europe, after it was originally opened in Glendale, California back on 28 March 1987.[78]
On 12 April 1992, Disney has opened Disneyland Paris, located in Chessy, Paris, as Disney first and only theme park in Europe, until it became popular in the continent.[79]
On 1 October 1995, Disney Channel first launched in the U.K. and Ireland as "The Disney Channel" at 6:30 pm (London time), market the first in EMEA; and the second, outside the United States after it first began in Taiwan on 29 March 1995.[80] And on that year, Disney released "Beauty & The Beast the Musical" in Vienna, Austria.
On 19 October 1999, The Lion King Musical premiered in the region at Lyceum Theatre in London. The cast included Cornell John as Mufasa, Luke Youngblood as Young Simba, Dominique Moore as Young Nala, Martyn Ellis as Pumbaa, Simon Gregor as Timon, Rob Edwards as Scar, Paul J. Medford as Banzai and Josette Bushell-Mingo as Rafiki.[81][82] As of October 2019, it has been playing at the said theatre for 20 years. Taymor directed the British production of the show, with Melissa De Melo as the producer. The show also toured the UK from 2012 until March 2015.
On 1 May 2020, Disney Channel was shut down in Italy, marking the very first in the European Union; as a result of failing to renew its pay TV contracts.
