Michael Patrick Carroll is an American businessman. He is chief executive officer and founder of Carroll Org., a U.S. real estate investment company.[1] He also co-owns S.P.A.L., an Italian football team, with Joe Tacopina.[2]

Early life

Carroll was born in Richmond, Virginia, in 1979, spent his childhood in Tampa, Florida, and then relocated to Atlanta after graduating from high school.[3]

Career

In 2004 he founded Carroll Org., a real estate company focused on acquisitions, asset management services, ground-up development, and fund management. The company is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, and having regional offices in Houston, New York, Raleigh, and Tampa.[4] The initial concentration of Carroll's acquisitions was on Florida and Georgia, but spread throughout the Southeast, including North Carolina and South Carolina. More than $13.1 billion worth of real estate has been successfully acquired, developed, or sold by the company since its founding in 2004.[5] The National Apartment Association awarded CARROLL with one of its NAA Best Places to Work Awards in 2021.[6]

Along with Joe Tacopina, he acquired Società Polisportiva Ars et Labor, commonly known as S.P.A.L. on August 19, 2021. The deal's terms were not made public.[7][2]

In 2021, he bought a lakefront Miami Beach home for $16.4M with his partner, model Alina Baikova.[8]

Carroll declared in 2021 that he had signed CEO Action for Diversity and Inclusion, a corporate community-led initiative to enhance diversity and inclusion in the workplace.[9]

Philanthropic Endeavors

Carroll's impact extends beyond the business realm. Carroll serves on the boards of the Jesuit High School Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club of Tampa Bay, demonstrating as stated on his organization's website a desire "to inspire the next generation of young entrepreneurs to prioritize a lifestyle of health and wellness, while also pursuing their dreams."[10]

On August 31, 2022, Carroll donated 600 pairs of sneakers to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade. This charitable event featured the participation of Benjamin Kicks, aka "The Sneaker Don", who arrived in a custom Brinks truck containing the donated shoes.[11] On November 15, 2022, Carroll continued his charitable donation of sneakers to children in need, giving away $100,000 worth of sneakers to underprivileged children in Tampa, Florida.[12] On March 23, 2023, Carroll continued donating 600 additional pairs of shoes to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in Atlanta. On June 8, 2023, Carroll brought his initiative to aid underprivileged children to NYC, donating 650 pairs of shoes to the Madison Garden Boys & Girls Club.[13][14] On August 29, 2023, on the fifth destination in his endeavor to donate $1,000,000 worth of shoes to underprivileged children he donated 600 pairs of sneakers to the Union League Boys & Girls Club of Chicago.[15]

In June of 2022, Carroll made a personal contribution of $1.5 million to C.A.R.E. for Special Children, a Brooklyn-based nonprofit specializing in assisting families with special needs children. This donation followed a combined donation by Carroll of $200,000 toward the Heart Fund, an international nonprofit dedicated to addressing cardiovascular disease in developing nations, as well as Jesuit High School in Tampa, Florida, his alma mater.[11][16]

Controversy

On April 14, 2023, Carroll attracted media attention for spitting in the face of the manager of Wynwood Eatery, Miguel Weill, after being asked to stop sexually harassing a woman who was eating with her partner.[17]
