Mayfield West is a large community (rural service centre), located in the town of Caledon, in the Golden Horseshoe region of Ontario, Canada.[1] It has a population of 14,800 people.[2]
Mayfield West is located in Ward 2 of Caledon.[3] Geographically, the area is located near the border with Brampton. The area was developed for the same reason. The Etobicoke Creek passes through the residential area. North west of the townlet is the Brampton-Caledon Airport.
Prior to the inception of Caledon in 1974, Mayfield West remained a small hamlet near Brampton or otherwise called Chinguacousy. The area was mostly rural, and had many small agricultural enterprises, specifically located on Mayfield Road. Very small development was happening at the time, mostly near other villages in Caledon, mostly due to its close proximity to the Gore.[4] In the early 2000s, Mayfield West as a community began to grow, and it became one of the largest communities in Caledon.[5] Currently, there are large plans for expansions of the community around the other areas of Brampton, with plans to link it with Bolton by 2050.[6][7]
