Prison Break is an upcoming American miniseries based on the Fox serial drama Prison Break by Paul T. Scheuring. The show was officially ordered as event series,[4] on August 2015 for 2016-2017 television season. During Television Critics Association press tour, Fox co-chairpersons Dana Walden and Gary Newman confirmed the Prison Break revival, although premier date is yet to be announced.[5]
The series will take place five years after the previous series events, where Sara will learn that Michael is alive and locked up in a prison and has suffered with extreme memory loss from an electric shock that helped Sara escape from the prison in series finale. She asked Lincoln to help her free Michael.[6][7][8][9]

In June 2015, it was reported that a limited series revival was in development at Fox.[13] In August 2015, Fox confirmed a 10-episode order for the revival, to debut in 2016. The limited series is a sequel to the original series, taking place several years later, and will feature Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell reprising their roles as well as the return of other original characters. In an interview Dominic Purcell revealed that, "Wentworth and I decided, 'Why not revisit Prison Break?' - and so we went to the studio and they were excited about the idea and here we are," he explained, "Prison Break was such an iconic show and it was something that we were very interested in revisiting, and they pulled out all the stops. So it's going to be a tremendous show. I think the studio always wanted to at some point revisit Prison Break, but at some point Wentworth kind of semi-retired from the business, he gave himself a break and focused on writing. He's jumped back into the fray now - and as soon as Wentworth was on board, that's when the dominos started to fall."[14]
Series creator Paul Scheuring is writing the first episode and the series' bible. Despite Michael being killed in the series finale, Fox CEO Dana Walden said that the series will provide "a logical and believable explanation to why the characters are alive and still moving around the world".[15] In January 2016, Fox officially ordered the revival to series, with the episode order revised to nine episodes.[16] In an interview Waldan said, "The story unravels on an international landscape — it's not a domestic [plot], We open on a very international contemporary-feeling story." She further explained that, "continuation will 'address' the events of the straight-to-DVD epilogue, The Final Break, in which a major character met his demise. Noting how many times the characters have broken out of prison, "It’s not a documentary!".[17]
Mark Feuerstein, Augustus Prew, Rick Yune, Steve Mouzakis, Amin El Gamal, Inbar Lavi, Marina Benedict and Kunal Sharma were cast as new characters; Feuerstein as Scott Ness, Prew as Whip, Yune as Ja, Mouzakis as Van Gogh, El Gamal as Cyclops, Lavi as Sheba, Benedict as A&W and Sharma as Sid.[17][10][18][19][20] In March 2016, it was confirmed that Sarah Wayne Callies, Amaury Nolasco, Robert Knepper, Rockmond Dunbar and Paul Adelstein would reprise their roles.[21][22][23]
Filming began on April 7, 2016 in Vancouver,[24] after Dominic and Wentworth finished filming for DC's Legends of Tomorrow on April 1, 2016.[25] Other filming locations were in Moroccan cities including Rabat; Casablanca and Ouarzazate.[21][26]
