Radio Dum Dum, established in 2005, holds the distinction of being the world's inaugural Malayalam Internet radio originating from Kerala, India. The station broadcast a diverse selection of Malayalam music and associated programs in Tamil. What set Radio Dum Dum apart from other internet radio stations of its time was its distinctive desktop player.^[1]

Notably, Radio Dum Dum stood as the sole Malayalam radio accessible through Spodtronics GPRS Spodradio.

History

Radio Dum Dum commenced its operations in September 2005, initiated by a group of individuals from various backgrounds in entertainment and information technology in Cochin. Originally conceived as a music station, its objective was to serve the Non-Resident Indian (NRI) community with ties to Kerala. In response to favorable feedback, Radio Dum Dum expanded its streaming support to include operating systems beyond Windows, incorporating MacOS and Linux OS.

However, operations came to a halt by March 2011, leading to the redirection of their website to a placeholder.

The Re-Launch

Dum Dum Media Works FZC relaunched the brand as an online media streaming platform on 15 April 2014, utilizing multiple platforms including web player, desktop application, social media apps for Facebook and Google+. A mobile app version was also produced for iOS, Android and Windows.

Multi-Lingual Broadcast

Radio Dum Dum introduced an integrated platform to accommodate Multi-Lingual Broadcast in order to cater to its wide-spread global audience. This enabled users to choose their preferred broadcast based on location, language and mood.
