Somnath Awghade is an Indian actor, known for his role in 2013 Marathi film Fandry, for which he earned the National Film Award for Best Child Artist.[1] He was also appeared in Free Hit Danka (2021), Jhund (2022) and Ghar Banduk Biryani (2023).[2][3]
Somnath Awghade is from Kem village, Karmala Taluka, Solapur district, Maharashtra belongs to a family of Halgi performers[4][5]
Awghade started his career with Fandry and he became famous for his outstanding performance in the film.[6] Director Nagraj Manjule also hails from Jeur village of Karmala. He won the National Award in 2011 for his short film Pistulya. On that occasion, Manjule was going to be felicitated in Kem village. When they came to the event, they saw Somnath playing the halgi and that's where Somnath was chosen as the hero of Fandry film.[4][7]
Later Awghade played lead roles in the Free Hit Danka and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Jhund.[8] In 2023, Manjule cast him in Ghar Banduk Biryani.[9]
