Should this be at Baku or remain here at Baky (not to mention Baki)? Numerous sources seem to use Baku -- Docu
Why is this article called "Baky"? This is simply wrong. There is no such city. The officially and universally-accepted English spelling is "Baku." It is used everywhere, including Azerbaijani official sources. "Baky" is a mere speculation, based on Azeri pronunciation of the city's name. However, it is not correct. The article, therefore, should be titled "Baku." In any event, the correct spelling is used throughout the entire article, except its heading.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.51.81.99 (talk) 07:07, October 23, 2005
Uh, why is Jesus even mentioned? Couldn't we state that this city was established several centuries before common era? and Why is it clickable? That's not very necessary. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.124.67.225 (talk • contribs) 07:26, December 25, 2005
Could a larger scale map be added to show where this place is in the world? At the very least, the caption for the existing map (of Azerbaijan) should be relabeled something like "The Baku Region of Azerbaijan" — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gloryroad (talk • contribs) 01:18, October 31, 2006

The link to Maiden's Tower is a badly placed one, because the Maiden's tower it links to is the one near Istanbul, not that in Baku. I removed the link (not knowing what better to do) --Jacobolus 09:58, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I've now added a page Maiden Tower (Baku), and added some very minimal information to that page. Someone who knows more should fix it up and add explanation. --Jacobolus 22:34, 23 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Hello everyone, I want to create a megaportal on the Metro systems of the FSU and some eastern European ones (with potentially expanding to cover other things like railroad city transportt etc), if you are interested in giving a helping hand have look at how we wrote the entries for Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Kiev. I know farsi and I know that Bagh-Kuh doesn't mean "Mount of God". It means "Mountain Garden", Bagh is garden and kuh is mountain. But where is God here?
This has nothing to do with modern Farsi, which has nearly 30% Arabic loan words in it. The word "Baga" means "God" in ancient Avestan (language of ancient Iranians and of the early Avesta of the Zoroastrians) and Sanskrit languages. The same root forms "Baga-dad" or "gift from God", which is now Baghdad

Particularly the oil boom years around the turn of the 19th/20th century. So much interesting stuff that I wish I knew well enough to add. So many interesting names like Alfred Nobel as well as all the massive construction and development that gave Baku it's European character of today. --Bobak 23:41, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

I've removed the line (under "Antiquity") that read: "The city was the location of an important fire temple of the Persian religion of Zoroastrianism ..."
If that was a reference to the temple at Surakhany, then its specious with respect to the religion and date ("antiquity"). There is no evidence that the Surakhany complex was ever used by Zoroastrians, and its missing all the hallmarks of a Zoroastrian fire temple (for instance, the central altar at Surakhany is open to all sides). All existing physical evidence (inscriptions et al, see Fire Temple of Baku) clearly indicates that it was a Hindu temple, an opinion that the museum's staff unequivocally express. That the Surakhany site may have once been the location of a Zoroastrian temple is possible, but (AFAIK) unprovable. If it was (in which case some proof would be nice, since it would be the only one of its kind to use naptha), it would have been some form other than the existing one. -- Fullstop 13:00, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
Guys, I'm working on a project to increase the amount of tourism information on Azerbaijan, and I was wondering if you all could help start transferring some of Baku's information to the wikitravel site-http://wikitravel.org/en/Baku? This is an encyclopedia and I dont know who cares and who do not cares its ethnicity (Armenian dont mean just of that ethnics, but thay was the representatives of that culture/tradicion and sometimes contributed to Armenian culture/science/sports etc.). Just some points:
Added some small details to the lines talking about the March Days per the header we settled for on the event's article. It's more accurate than the previous sentence which totally makes it look like a one-sided affair with only one perpetrator (ARF). - Fedayee (talk) 16:29, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
I added some information and references in the oil boom section. As only one paragraph is pertinent to oil, it may be better to just merge two parts into History section. I will work on that. Thanks. Atabek (talk) 18:08, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

I've looked at the FA Dhaka as a good model, and they have one sentence in the climate section. Since Baku and Dhaka were coincidentally #1 and #2 on the 2008 Forbes list, it made a perfect example. I've therefore added a succinct, but strong sentence under Climate in this edit. I hope it will work. --Bobak (talk) 23:45, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

Well, I can give you the online source to convince you. You can check it Майкл СМИТ. As far as I know you can read Russian, can't you?
Well I see the translation is needed. Here you are (Google translation):All this paved the way for the events of March, when on March 30 - April 3, Russian and Dashnak forces, which obey the Council, seeking to establish control over the Baku streets, faced with armed Muslim groups. Speedy deletions at commons tend to take longer than they do on Wikipedia, so there is no rush to respond. If you feel the deletion can be contested then please do so (commons:COM:SPEEDY has further information). Otherwise consider finding a replacement image before deletion occurs.

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request its removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

The person who edited away my previous edit about the mass murder in Baku: will you have the human decency to keep it now? I made it more neutral, and linked both to the mutual killings by BOTH sides. You, on the other hand, made an strong remark about "12,000 Azerbeijanis killed in their own capital", but think it is right to remove the truth of the opposite side? BTW: I am not Armenian, Azerbeijani, Russian, nor come from even close to any of those places, but I believe unless the full historical truth is told, the attrocities will never stop. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.239.250.209 (talk) 16:27, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

In its current state this article does not meet the GA criteria. The major problem here is that most of it is vastly unreferenced and some of the sections could do with a general copyedit. If all of the above were addressed and the references were sorted out then this would have a fighting chance to pass the GAN. I'll put this on hold for the standard seven days and will see the progress. Regards ☠ Jaguar ☠ 17:40, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

This is one of the most important cities in the history of central Asia. Where is the information for the centuries between 100 A.D. and 700 A.D.? What about the Mongol invasions and the 14th century khanate there? HammerFilmFan (talk) 20:50, 30 March 2017 (UTC)

Hi. I am going to modify the Baku population to published versions rather than the unverified version of 3 million plus that is currently listed. I can find no reliable sources that list as a verifiable number or even an estimate of its populace. I am going to use the CIA World Factbook estimate for 2015. It puts the population at well under 3 million. Regards, Steve Stevenmitchell (talk) 21:16, 6 January 2018 (UTC)

Are we sure that it is correct to refer to the administrative divisions of Azerbaijan (as a whole) as "rayons", and the subdivisions of Baku as "raions"? The plural for both (according to the Wikipedia articles for Baku and Azerbaijan) in Azerbaijani is "rayonlar", and in most other countries, "rayon" and "raion" are merely two different ways to spell the same word. I found a source of this city flag on FOTW, so can I add this flag to the infobox? Alexphangia Talk 07:36, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
Hello, This article mentions Neft Daşları, translating it to Oil Rocks in English. I've seen both used, but the original Azeri seems to be used more often by English-language sources, as well as on the Wikipedia article itself, so I'd propose changing it to Neft Daşları unless anyone had a reason not to? All the best ~ Asheiou (talk) 16:53, 10 April 2023 (UTC)
The article's introduction mentions the fact that the city is below sea level. Surely the "Geography" section should expand on that, at least to indicate the actual "altitude"? Robin Patterson (talk) 03:40, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
