Being not an English mother-tongue, I may easily be wrong: but, it seems to me that sometime downtown is used to indicate the poorest districts of the city, as in Billy Joel's "Uptown girl". Is it my misunderstanding? Filippo83 (talk) 18:07, 20 June 2013 (UTC)
I am aware that there is a disambiguation page for downtown, with a reference to ((implied US/American) slang) police station, though that article does not contain/list any slang terms for police station (thus not etymology for it either), perhaps because it is not appropriate in that article(?). As the term 'downtown' for 'police station' also (most likely) finds its origin in the geographic location, should it not deserve a paragraph and explanation in this article?
