The templates are updated from time to time as the Office for National Statistics (ONS) releases new data, thus it should not be necessary to manually update the articles or their references. Districts are identified by passing a GSS code as a parameter. The Office for National Statistics began using the new GSS codes in preference to the old ONS codes in January 2011. The templates' support for the old 4-character ONS codes has now been discontinued (February 2017).
